An in-state commission is a notary license from the state you are asking about. Remote online notarization (RON) is a video session with a notary. A mobile notary is a person who drives to you. A walk-in is a bank or UPS counter. Ads often mash those jobs into one checkout. We keep them apart.
People come here with a document that needs to be notarized this week. Finish a bank file. Look like you used a local notary. Keep a file a bank can ask for later. The first job is often a video session with a notary licensed in another state. The second job depends on the state. The third job is a keep-time sentence on a pricing page, or the lack of one. We would rather be plain and accurate than first on a “best of 2026” list.
Arizona is on the site because the state splits electronic work. Remote online notarization is a video session for a remotely located individual under A.R.S. § 41-263. It is not automatic with a regular commission. The notary notifies the Secretary of State and holds written remote-online authorization. Electronic notarization (eNotary) is an electronic seal while the signer is still in the room. Remote online notaries keep the audiovisual recording for at least five years. California is on the site because the in-state video answer is “not yet,” and people still need a document notarized this week. A person in California can use an out-of-state video notary. Georgia is on the site because the in-state video answer is “not allowed,” and the commission path is different. A Georgia-commissioned notary cannot perform remote online notarization. The Clerk of Superior Court in the county of residence issues a four-year commission. GSCCCA keeps the statewide list. There is no Secretary of State webcam product. Illinois is on the site because the state splits video into two jobs. Remote notarization is a printed document plus a physical notary seal over live audio-video. The Act gives a commissioned Illinois notary authority for that track, subject to the extra remote-act bond. Electronic notarization is an electronic seal on an electronic file, the product most people mean by remote online notarization (RON). That track needs a separate Electronic Notary Public commission and an SOS-certified system. The Index Department began commissioning Electronic Notaries Public in 2024. New York is on the site because electronic-notary registration is live, and the rule for printed estate documents is different. A New York notary who registered as an electronic notary with the Department of State may perform remote online notarization. A regular New York notary without that signup still needs to be in the room. Once the e-notary license issues, the traditional license is cancelled. Electronic notaries keep an audio-visual recording for at least ten years. Wills, trusts, and powers of attorney stay printed and signed in ink under State Technology Law § 307.
